Joseph Hirl is the Founder, CEO and CTO for Agilis Energy, LLC and its affiliate company Agilis Advisory Group, LLC. The Agilis companies provide strategic and tactical consulting advice to energy producers, consumers and trading intermediaries that is practical and experience-based drawing on the more than twenty years that Joe has spent in the fields of energy trading and marketing, financial risk management, power plant operations and maintenance and international business development.
Prior to starting the Agilis businesses, Joe was senior vice president for Energy Marketing and Trading at Progress Energy where he was responsible for all unregulated energy marketing, trading and merchant assets positions (3,100 MWs). He managed a developing business with more than 50 people and EBIT in excess of $50M for the 10th largest US electric utility.
Before joining Progress, Joe was Managing Director and Country Manager for three separate Enron energy marketing, trading and structured derivative businesses in Scandinavia, Australia and Japan. In these roles, he was responsible for managing and leading the businesses from inception through to self sustaining enterprises. All of the businesses established leading market positions within the regional energy markets.
At the start of his career, Joe was a US Navy Nuclear Power Officer, where he was responsible for the operation, maintenance and supervision of shipboard nuclear reactors onboard the USS Virginia (CGN-38). He received a number of commendation and achievement awards for exceptional leadership, engineering and operational performance.
Joe received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Operational Certification as a Nuclear Engineer from the US Department of Naval Reactors and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Drawing on his international and domestic business development and management expertise, Joe has been a frequent conference speaker and has lectured on leadership & ethics at a number of leading universities including Duke University and Texas A&M. He is a member of the IEEE.
Margaret Hirl is a Co-Founder and Vice President Commercial Real Estate for Agilis Energy, LLC. Ms. Hirl is a 27 year veteran of the commercial real estate markets and directly responsible for investment sales in excess of $3 billion of office, industrial and apartment complexes. She was previously a Senior Vice President with CB Richard Ellis where she was selected for the “Top 5” sales professional list and the Chairman’s Club.
In her current position within Agilis Energy she is focused on energy efficiency and is working directly with the property managers and engineers to bring greater efficiencies to the operations of the equipment thereby increasing the value to the institutional owners/operators.
Ms. Hirl is also founder of Antares Enterprises, a real estate brokerage and work out firm. She presently holds Principal Brokers’ licenses in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Ms. Hirl is very aware of the value energy efficiencies bring to the value of the properties and tenant retention. Additionally she has had her own DC-based residential construction firm.
Ms. Hirl earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Marymount College of Fordham University. Additionally she has attended University College, London, England and Lusk Center for Real Estate, University of Southern California.
